'Lady (Betty) Norman is so petite, I had to think hard for a way to convey the bigness of her generous heart and the strength of her will that has overcome so many difficulties throughout her remarkable life.'
Part of the solution was to exaggerate the apparent size of her hands by bringing them forward in the picture plane. The flowers that surround her have several references to her past and present. The aircraft was the favourite of husband Sir Robert Norman OBE, who founded the Australian Bush Pilots, for which Betty served as radio base officer.
